The Next Step after Deliverance
Man is a three part being, we consist of body, soul and spirit. When we are saved, we are transferred out of the kingdom of darkness and into the kingdom of Light. Our spirit then belongs to the Most High God, and we are seated in heavenly places. We believe Christians can be demonized (oppressed), not owned or possessed by evil spirits. The level of oppression depends on things like generational curses, trauma and sin. After salvation, our body and soul (the mind will and emotions) are what can remain affected by demonic influence. We must renew our minds to the mind of Christ.  It is agreement with the lies of the enemy that empower the demonic in our lives. The battleground is in our minds.  (2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.)  We have all authority, when we tell the demonic to leave, they must leave.  However, they will come right back if their rights are not cancelled, and our minds are still in agreement with the lies and false beliefs.  The rights the enemy has to us must be renounced and cancelled and then the removal of demonic is successful.Although deliverance focuses on removing the demonic, we believe freedom is not the absence of demonic, it is the presence of the Spirit of God.  (2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.)  The absence of demonic is a clean house, but freedom is when that clean house is filled with the Spirit of God. It is vital to spend time filling up on truth from the Holy Spirit as part of the session. Afterwards, it is imperative to fill your mind with the truth of God’s word (John 8:31-32 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”) The fight for our freedom does not end at deliverance, we must continue to allow truth to penetrate our hearts and minds.  (Luke 11:24-26 When an unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and finding none it says, “I will return to my house from which I came. And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order. Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And the last stage of that person is worse than the first.”) It will take a renewed commitment to truth to remain free.  The enemy does not like to lose territory.  He will fight to get it back.

The Next Step after Deliverance

When I had deliverance, I was a new creature and I felt fantastic for about 2 months.  I prayed warfare and put my armor on, spent time in worship and in the Word.  I was doing all the right things to “walk it out.’ Soon though, my emotions and circumstances seemed very familiar. It seemed like my deliverance didn’t work.  It did work, but I had more work to do. I needed inner healing. I am still in inner healing to this day.

If there is an issue that arises after deliverance, there definitely
could be more demonic involved.  However, the need isn’t for more deliverance necessarily, the need is for inner healing.  If you have already been through breaking generational chains and renouncing the enemy and you are finding yourself struggling, then a new layer has emerged for healing.  The reason you can notice demonic influence after deliverance is they have a right to be there.
There is a belief system that allows them to stay.  We can kick them out all day long, we have all authority, but if you have a belief system that is in agreement with them, they will come right back.  Your beliefs are the door the enemy uses to come in. Let me say that your beliefs are NOT your fault.  They are the result of pain and a lot of times heavy trauma.  The enemy loves to cause trauma specifically so he can implant the false belief systems.
The difficult part is that most of these beliefs are formed before we are 5 years old.  They have become so normal to us, we don’t even know we believe them.   Inner healing will help you uncover those beliefs.  Some people call these soul wounds some people call them bitterroot judgements.  Some of this work can be done on your own.  We have a document on our “Renew the Mind” page that can help.
If you have experienced any trauma, you will need someone to help you with this process.  There are many ways to healing.  You can see a counselor, find a church that does prophetic prayer, you can look for a therapist that offers EMDR or ART therapy.  You will need support to help you deal with the beliefs buried in trauma.  The beliefs are stored in the right side of the brain and getting to them sometimes requires help.
Your deliverance was successful in starting you on the healing path.  We will all need to continue taking steps on that path for as long as we are alive.  I pray peace and direction over your steps as you ponder what the Lord would have you do next.  He is faithful, He saves to the uttermost.  He will lead you.

Walking it out

Expect War
We have found the enemy is very unhappy with losing ground. He will fight to take back the strongholds he had in you. He will test you to see if you are serious. How? The same lies the enemy used prior to deliverance can be sent this time, from the outside. Read your notes of how the enemy attacked in the past. He knows your weak spots. Some people will walk away from their session with immediate peace. For others, it may take a while to experience a “quietness” of mind. Once it comes, fight to keep it. Use the tools we suggest below to make war so that you can achieve peace.

Recognize attacks
During your deliverance prayer, the lies of the enemy were exposed. The areas they attacked were revealed. The enemy will try to attack in the same way he did before, and he will try new ways as well. If you do not have peace, you are under attack. Every step of ours is made to be one of peace, that is one reason why our armor has shoes of the gospel of peace. It is supposed to pass our understanding, surpass the circumstances. Peace does not mean a lack of war. Peace is ours in the midst of the storm, if we claim it, through the Prince of Peace.

Capture your thoughts
The battle does not end here. This is a major victory, but you will need to be vigilant so that the enemy does not sow seeds of fear, doubt and unbelief. You will need to practice taking every thought captive to Christ. That is a huge undertaking, but you have a choice as to which thoughts you allow to take root. Scripture gives us the parameters of thoughts that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report. Each thought must meet all of these criteria. We are not responsible for every thought that comes through our minds, the enemy is a thought caster.  He will send thoughts and then condemn us for thinking them.  We are responsible for taking the thoughts captive, we cannot allow them to take root.

We have authority to judge
1 Corinthians 6:2-3
Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more then, matters pertaining to this life?

Fire is a weapon of God
Psalm 97:3 Fire goes before him and burns up his adversaries all around.

Leviticus 10:2 And fire came out from before the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord
Deuteronomy 4:24 For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

2 Kings 1:10 But Elijah answered the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty” Then fire came and consumed him and his fifty.

Sample prayers:
Holy Spirit, in this moment, I ask for a pillar of fire to surround me and burn all demonic spirits and weapons that are hindering me.

Holy Spirit please consume with your fire, all demonic spirits and weapons that are hindering me. Angels of the Lord, please remove any other spirit serving the power of darkness to the throne of God for judgment.

Some Tools

Every day you need to put your spiritual armor on (Ephesians 6). Be as simple or as elaborate as you want with your request. Scripture says to put it on so that we may be able to stand the schemes of the enemy. It will disable the devices of the enemy against you.

Ask Him to hide you under the shadow of His wing. This will hide you from
the demonic in others. Jesus used this as a form of protection (John8:59)

Use the blood of Jesus to cleanse your emotions. Ask Him to wash you in His blood. It makes your spiritual armor shine, makes you a reflection of Him.

Ask for angels to help you. He gives His angels charge over you, to keep
you in all your ways (Psalm 91:11)

Quote an applicable scripture. It is a sword for your protection. Holy Spirit will quicken you and bring a passage to your mind for each new circumstance. (When you are afraid you could say “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power of love and a sound mind.) This is one reason that memorization is so important in our Christian walk.

Declare what you have been redeemed from and a scriptural antidote to your issue. For example, if you are under attack you can say, “I have been redeemed from the power of the enemy, therefore NO WEAPON formed against me will prosper.” When you are feeling sick you can say “I have been redeemed from the curse, therefore by His stripes I am healed”

Be careful what you say. Your words have the power to shape your destiny. (Read James 3) You are created in God’s image; you were made to speak life. Use your mouth to bless.

Ask the angels of God to erect a spiritual canopy over your home or hotel room etc. ( Isaiah 4:5) Ask them to cleanse away all darkness. Ask for the blood of Jesus to purify everything in, on or around your home. Be specific. Cleanse it regularly.

Ask that the blood of Jesus be every barrier that you need between you and the kingdom of darkness.

Pray “Peace be still, in Jesus’ name” Claim the name of Jesus over every circumstance.

Forgiveness is a powerful tool in our journey of freedom.  We are told to not let the sun go down on our wrath.  Our minds are like computers, we are wiring the hard drive when we sleep.  If we have anger and a lack of forgiveness, that is getting wired into the workings of our minds as we sleep.  Then life gets busy and we sometimes forget to address the issue.  This is a subtle way the enemy gets into our lives.  Some offenses are very hard to forgive, they take some time.  In this case, it might be a continual process for a while of asking God to help you be willing to forgive, of receiving His forgiveness and then offering that to the offending party.

Renew your mind

When you make a mistake, renounce it and repent. We are to continue in our quest to be Christ-like. If you see a pattern to your mistakes (like loosing your temper) ask the Lord to reveal the root of that sin (like fear of not being valued). Ask Him to show you where that seed was planted (like when you were a small child and got left out of games) and what your heart believed, (like “I don’t matter” or “no one loves me”). Write each lie down and renounce it. Ask Him for His truth to replace it. Ask Him to renew your mind to these truths, to cleanse every cell in your body that lined up with the lies.

Here is a more detailed process to continue the path to the renewing of the mind:

The Five R’s

1. Repent. God, I acknowledge that I have fallen short of your pattern of ________, believed the lie of _________, and made decisions, soul ties, received generational sins, or been forced into accepting the evil pattern of _______ that I’ve later acted on when not being forced. I repent, speaking out loud my request to you, God, for forgiveness for ________, and I choose to forsake this ungodly pattern. In your strength, God, I purpose to live differently from before.
2. Receive. God, I accept/receive your forgiveness. I ask for some extra assurance from you, Lord, that I am wearing your robe of righteousness and that I am now holy before you. (Use imagination to go to a “safe place” or receive a picture, scripture, song, touch or some other means for cementing the truth into the soul).
3. Release.
a. God, I choose to forgive, bless and release to you each person and situation in my life, from early childhood to the present time, for their part in bringing about or reinforcing the ungodly pattern of __________in my life (silently, before God alone, forgive and bless each person).
b. God, I choose to forgive myself. Because of my choices, I have reaped harmful results. I forgive and release myself from all blame, shame and guilt, just like you have done for me, Jesus (say aloud so the enemy knows of this transaction).
4. Renounce.  With the authority given to me by Jesus Christ, in the power of His name and shed blood,  I command every evil spirit or forces serving the power of darkness, that were given access through these beliefs to go to the feet of the Lord Jesus Christ. I cancel all curses, assignments (whether human or spiritual) and any other weapon used against me in Jesus’ mighty name.
5. Replace. God, please fill with your Spirit all the places that have just been cleansed .(Spend time to see what God is putting into your heart and life to fill the newly emptied space – pictures, smells, encouraging words, scripture, songs, or an awareness of His presence. Bathe in what He may be putting in – character traits, godly attitudes, wisdom for your situation, or … Record those and share with others).
Thank you, God, for taking me on another step to the on-going victory that you promise. Thank you Jesus for coming to set the captives free!
