What is the purpose of trial or testing according to God’s Word?
According to Scripture, trials and testing are not meant to destroy us, but to develop us. God uses them to shape our faith, character, dependence, and maturity.
Here is the purpose of trials according to God’s Word:
1) Trials Purify and Strengthen Our Faith
Trials reveal whether our trust is in God or in our circumstances.
1 Peter 1:6–7
You are distressed by trials so that the tested genuineness of your faith… may be found to result in praise and honor.
Gold is purified by fire → Faith is purified by testing.
2) Trials Produce Spiritual Maturity
God is not only interested in saving us, but in shaping us into the character of Christ.
James 1:2–4
The testing of your faith produces patience, and let patience have its perfect work, that you may be mature and complete.
No maturity happens without endurance.

3) Trials Teach Us to Depend on God, Not Ourselves
God allows situations where our strength, ideas, and resources are not enough.
